About the Role

DP World is seeking an experienced and visionary Sustainability Specialist to lead and implement sustainability initiatives that align with global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This role requires a strategic thinker who can develop programs, execute campaigns, engage with stakeholders, and communicate DP World’s sustainability efforts across internal and external platforms.

Key Objectives of the Role

  • Ensure safety, discipline, and compliance in operational areas

  • Drive time management and effective execution of sustainability projects

  • Promote awareness and integration of sustainable practices within port operations

  • Strengthen ESG reporting and community engagement initiatives

Primary Focus Areas

  • Knowledge of terminal operations and port logistics

  • Familiarity with safety standards and compliance procedures

  • Quality control and performance monitoring

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Sustainability & ESG Program Implementation

  • Design and implement corporate sustainability programs that support DP World’s ESG strategy

  • Lead environmental projects such as:

    • Energy efficiency upgrades

    • Waste reduction initiatives

    • Mangrove reforestation and biodiversity restoration

  • Collaborate with HSE and operational teams to integrate sustainability into day-to-day practices

  • Track project outcomes and report on key sustainability metrics

  • Conduct staff training and awareness campaigns on environmental stewardship

2. Strategic Communication

  • Develop internal and external communication strategies focused on sustainability impact

  • Draft content for press releases, speeches, newsletters, and social media platforms

  • Ensure alignment with global corporate branding and messaging standards

  • Support senior leadership with executive communications related to ESG

3. Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Organize and manage CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs that align with local community needs

  • Build partnerships with NGOs, schools, local governments, and industry stakeholders

  • Plan and execute events such as community clean-ups, school partnerships, or tree-planting campaigns

  • Facilitate consultations and feedback sessions for ongoing initiatives

4. ESG Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure full compliance with national and international environmental laws and reporting frameworks

  • Prepare and submit sustainability reports to both internal and external stakeholders

  • Support third-party audits and provide documentation for ESG assessments

  • Monitor sustainability expenditure and assist in budget planning

5. Employee Engagement

  • Lead internal campaigns promoting sustainability and employee volunteerism

  • Organize events such as Earth Day, World Oceans Day, and Health & Safety Week

  • Encourage a sustainability-first culture throughout all departments

Qualifications

Education

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in:

    • Environmental Science

    • Communications

    • Public Relations

    • Sustainability

    • Related fields

  • A Master’s degree is an added advantage

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sustainability and/or corporate communications roles

  • Experience in sectors such as maritime, logistics, industrial operations, or large-scale infrastructure is preferred

Skills Required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation abilities

  • Proficiency in ESG frameworks and sustainability reporting standards

  • Project management and team leadership experience

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity when engaging with diverse communities

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools
